Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Chapel
Aug 17, 2009 by Maximilien from Atlanta
Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Belvedere, archaeological site, guided tours of the adjacent museum every 30 minutes, beautiful Chapel.
  • Cash only.

“This Chapel is the oldest Stone Chapel in Montreal. The present Chapel was built in 1771 but its founder rallies the French colonist to her project since 1655. It is a warm and stunning place. One of the things that caught by attention are the little boats hanging from the vault. I understood from the costumed guide's explanation that in the 19th century, with the expansion of the port of Montreal, the chapel became the sailors chosen place of prayer. The hanging miniature boats were offered to the Church by different sailors and recall their faith in Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours.”

Crescent Street
May 7, 2007 by amy from Burlington
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Loved Galerie Crescent Contemporain, California Boutique, La Pendulerie and the Formula One Boutique and the Ritz Carlton.
  • Hated parking costs on the street meters, street beggars in Montreal.

“We spent two days in Montreal, stayed at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Sherbrooke, enjoyed the Montreal Museum of Fine art and spent an entire afternoon and evening on Crescent Street. They have art galleries, boutiques and most of all we have to thank our new friends at the Galerie Crescent Contemporain at 2080, who not only helped us pick out an incredible fine work of art for our home but even had it delivered and hung for us, for not only this but for taking the time to introduce us to the boutiques on the street. We spent a great time at La Pendulerie where they have every fine Swiss and German clock ever made I think, no exaggeration over 100 different clocks at least. The best part for us was they also sell Swiss chocolates, thanks for the patience Fabian (over forty different types to choose, we tried ten). Our next stop was my husband's toy shop The Formula One Boutique, the official dealer for Formula One stuff. Mind blowing don't think my husband and son let us get out of there fast. I made my husband pay for his toys dearly though when I bought a sultry evening gown at the California Boutique, don't worry people trust me he is going to benefit from this dress. Thank goodness the evening came and the boutiques starting closing, I think we may have spent our kid's inheritance in one day and we had not even got to Holt Renfrew yet. Formula one shop suggested we have dinner at Newton's or The Hard Rock Cafe on Crescent. We choose The Hard Rock because of the kids, not bad average but the kids had fun. The next day we had to make sure we stayed away from the friends we made on Crescent, hey remember Montreal is a big place and we did not want to miss it, but we have made some great friends on Crescent. We are going to be back for the Formula One”

Cathedrale Mary Reine du Monde
May 5, 2007 by Blaine from Midland
Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Everything about the place, the incense, the candles, side altars and main altar, the marble floors the sanctity of that temple.
  • Nothing about this Church. It will be the first place I visit on my return.

“While at a conference in 2005 I was out walking to find what Catholic Churches were in the area. It was mid day and yet there were streams of people all flowing up the steps of what looked like a magnificent church. When I entered I was amazed at the interior size of the place. I knew it was made in imitation of St. Peter's in Rome because of the replica of Bernouli's columns. The side altars were numerous. I only read in this travel guide now that this church was indeed a 1/3 replica of St. Peter's in Rome. Only 1/3, I had never been in a church that large. I now know why these beautiful temples were built to such a size. I could feel God's presence there like I had never felt before.”
